Abstract

Description

Outhouse at the Mathis Labor Camp. The picture has a typed caption that reads: "Mathis Labor Camp 4/11/48 1-1 Picture shows the open pit privies in this camp. These privies are within ten to twenty feet distance from where the families sleep. Flies from these privies do not have to fly to get to the babies' face or food, all they have to do is to walk. One of the privies has no door. The other is falling down. The other is running over with human feces. No rat-proofing. No fly-proofing. No screening. No doors. No self closing lids."
